Song: Welcome to the Family

Welcome to the Family

Welcome to the Family
We’re glad that you have come
To share your life with us
As we grow in love
And may we always be to you
What God would have us be
A family always there
To be strong and to lean on

May we learn to love each other
More with each new day
May words of love be on our lips
In everything we say
May the Spirit melt our hearts
And teach us how to pray
That we might be
A true Family

Nursery Lesson Plan 12: God Made People - 13th November 2011

Our concept on Sunday was Creation with the focus or theme being God made people.
The bible story I read was the Creation story from Genesis1 :26,27 written in child language and our Memory verse was. Psalm 139 :14 " I am wonderfully made."
We had a cutting and pasting acitivity with pasting paper people onto colourful paper with the memory verse, playdough activity(using our hands to touch, feel, create) and an activity where the children could draw themselves, with eyes to see, ears to hear, nose to smell, mouth to taste and hands to feel and paint afterwards.
We sang a song about our five senses and I brought items with to smell, taste, feel and touch, hear and see. I placed emphasis on how God created us wonderfully with our 5 senses. Perhaps try and talk to them at home about how wonderful God made us. Times when we use our senses, which is so often, can be a great opportunity.

Nursery Lesson Plan 13: Love One Another - 23 November 2011

Lesson Plan
FIBC Nursery (0-4 years old)
Date: 23rd November 2011, Time: 1 – 2.30pm
Concept Area: Church
Theme: People at church love each other and teach about God and Jesus
Bible Verse: John 13:34 Love one another.
Teachers: Elaine, Jannie and Teddy

1-1.30pm: Early Arrivers Activities

Activity 1: Make a “Love One Another” Photo Frame

A craft in which the children work together help foster cooperation and sharing:

·         Provide two pieces of 8- by 10-inch cardboard.
·         Cut the center from one piece, leaving about 2 inches around the edge for the frame.
·         Cover the frame with brown paper from a grocery bag.
·         Write at the top of the frame, "Love One Another."
·         Have the children press their thumbs into an ink pad, then onto the frame.
·         The kids will use markers to decorate their own thumbprint, creating a picture of themselves.
·         They should also write their names under their pictures.
·         Take a digital picture of the entire group and print it.
·         Tape the group picture behind the frame piece so the picture shows from the front.
·         Glue or tape the whole cardboard piece onto the back of the picture for stability.

Activity 2: Hearts

·         Draw one large heart and several smaller hearts on red construction paper. Help the children cut them out.
·         Next, paste a picture of Jesus on the large heart.
·         On the smaller hearts, paste photos of each of the children, teachers and parents.
·         When completed, place the large heart facedown on a table.
·         Help the children place all the small hearts facedown in a circle around the large heart.
·         Have the children turn over the large heart first.
·         Explain that Jesus loves him so much that He puts people in his life—people who love him and whom he can love.
·         When we love Jesus, it helps us to love others. All love comes from Jesus.
·         Before your child turns over each smaller heart, say, "Jesus loves you so much, He gave you ___ (as the child turns over the heart, shout the name of the person on the photo) to love."
·         Continue until all the small hearts are turned over. Explain to the children that as much as all these people love him and he loves each person, Jesus loves all of us even more than that!

Activity 3: Stringing Bead Bracelet for Mommy

Activity 4: Printing Heart Card for a Neighbour or friend

·         Print heart shape hearts from shape sorter into a cardboard to be made into a card for a neighbour or friend.
Ask: “What word do you think of when you see a heart? Here in the Bible it says, “Let us love. Do you know whom the Bible tells us to love? Read the whole verse “Love one another”. We can begin by loving everyone in the room.
Say: “When we show respect and kindness to others, we are showing love each other.

Say: “How can we show love to one another? We show our love by meeting the needs of others. One of the ways to demonstrate our love is by being willing to give in to the other's wishes, requests, concerns, and consciences.

Say: “To be willing to change for each other out of love, to make adjustments and compromises in order to live in harmony.

Say: “How do your parents show love to you? By playing with you, by listening to you, by giving you lots of hugs and kisses. How do you show love to your parents? By helping mommy to set the table, by giving mommy and daddy a hug, by helping mommy to clean up.”

Say: “How do you show love to others? By thinking about the needs of others such as by making a card to cheer someone up. By sharing your toys to children who have few toys, by being kind and including everyone when playing, by visiting your granny who may be lonely, by listening attentively when someone talks, by being a good friend, by cooperating and sharing, by telling others about Jesus.”

Say: “We can’t love one another in our sinful nature. We need God’s Holy Spirit within us. Then love becomes a behaviour flowing from within. How can we have the Holy Spirit in us? By accepting Jesus Christ as our Saviour.”

1.30 – 1.40pm: Bible Story Time

Bible Story: Jesus’ Love

Jesus loved people. He loved thieves, tax collectors, sick people, poor people, children and His followers. He loved people who were devoted to Him and those who were different from Him. He even loved difficult and mean people.

·         God calls us to love others, just as He loves us.
·         We show love to others by forgiving, accepting and honoring them.
·         We can only love others when we are full of God's love

Because we are loved by Him, we are called to love like Him. The extent to which we love one another validates and communicates our faith (John 13:34-35).

We can learn how to love like Jesus by living out the following "one another" passages in the Bible.
1.     Forgive one another (Colossians 3:13).

Say: “The ultimate example of forgiveness was displayed when Jesus hung on the Cross and cried out for those who were crucifying Him: "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" (Luke 23:34). We should forgive others even when they don't deserve it or ask for it. That demonstrates a love that keeps no record of wrongs (1 Corinthians 13:5).”

2.     Accept one another (Romans 15:7).

Say: “To truly love someone, you must avoid trying to change the person for your own purposes. Accepting love is patient and kind, even when someone does not meet your expectations (1 Corinthians 13:4).”

3.     Honour one another (Romans 12:10).

Say: “Honour means to esteem someone as highly valuable. It leads us to treat others as though they are personally autographed by God. When we value others above ourselves, we are emulating the attitude of Christ (Philippians 2:3-5).”
But what if the person you are trying to love does not receive it? Loving others isn't always easy, but a Christ-like love means forgiving, accepting and honouring even those who are different and difficult. Our ability to love others comes from God (1 John 4:7). We can only give love when our hearts are full of God's love. That is the formula. Any other attempt at loving one another simply does not work.

Bible Verse: John 13:34 – A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

Ask the children to recite it one-by-one John 13:34 “Love one another.”

1.40 – 1.50pm: Singing

Introduce the key Bible Verses with musical instruments, hand motions and songs as follows:
·         Beloved let us love one another
·         Jesus Loves Me
1.50 – 2pm: Snack Time

·         Sing the “Say Grace Song
·         Pray to thank God for the snack and for His love for each person.
·         Bring out the muffins/pancakes along with napkins and small paper plates.
·         Let each child choose a muffin and hand it to the person on his right. Talk about how when we show respect and kindness to others, we are showing love to each other.
·         Evaluation: Have the children state ways of showing love that they can remember.

2 – 2.15pm: Physical Game Time

Activity 5: Letter Mat for Hopping
·         Write the letters “L O V E” on plain A4 paper each and taped them onto the floor in a line.
·         Ask the children to stand in line and hop from one letter to another.
·         As they hop, ask them to say out the name of the letter.
·         When they hope on the last letter E, ask the child to say to the child who has finished hopping before him, “Let us love one another” and give the child a hug.

2.15 – 2.30pm: Clean up Time

·         Say: “What are some of the ways you can show love? You can show love by helping teachers to clean up.”
·         Clean up together and sing the song “Time to Clean Up

2.30pm: Parents pick up kids

Nursery Lesson Plan 11: The Bible teaches us about Jesus

Dear Parents,

'We can learn about God and Jesus from the Bible.' - this is the theme for the Sunday pre-school learning on 06 November 2011.

I hope that the children be reminded about the Bible from God, from which we can learn about Him, and apply His teachings and lessons in our own lives.

Please find a brief summary below about the concept area and the activities we planned for the children:

Concept Area:

Bible

Theme:

I can learn about God and Jesus from the Bible.

Bible Story:

2 Timothy 3: 15 The Bible teaches us about Jesus.

Young Jesus studied the scriptures with the wise teachers at the tabernacle.

Bible Verse:
2 Timothy 3: 15 The Bible teaches us about Jesus.

Activities:

As a warm-up activity, we started by recalling the stories the children have learnt from the previous Sundays through 'join-the-dots' and maze activities. Stories from 'Jonah and the whale', 'Jesus was born', 'Noah's Ark', 'Jesus is God's son', and among others were repeated, for example, using the maze activities to help Noah find the animals for the Ark, and the shepherds to find baby Jesus in the manger.

As Christmas is approaching and to co-relate with the Bible theme of learning about Jesus, the children had an opportunity to create and decorate Christmas cards that they could give to their loved ones at home, to parents and grandparents. Throughout the activities, children hear about the meaning of Christmas, about God's salvation through His son, Jesus.

During the story-telling time, children hear about how young Jesus studied the scriptures together with the wise teacher at the tabernacle. Likewise for us today, we also read the Bible at home together with our parents and family and at church with teachers and friends. I tried to introduce the concept that for each book in the Bible, there is a chapter and the corresponding verses. To repeat from a previous learning on the first few books of the Old Testament, building blocks printed with the names of the first 7 books, from Genesis till Judges were used in which the children could learn these names through building a Bible block or skyscraper, and to arrange them in the correct order, according to the Bible.

Before refreshments time, we prayed and gave thanks for the rice crackers and drink. Very quickly, the time passed, and we started to clean-up the room, with the children’s involvement  and thereafter parents came to pick up their children after the worship service.

I urge and encourage you to continue the learning aim at home about reading the Bible as a central activity at home.

See you all again at church on Sunday!

Blessings,
Wi Min on behalf of the teachers on duty on 06 November 11.

Nursery Lesson Plan 10: Jesus is God's son

Dear Parents,

Praise the Lord for it has been very encouraging to see your children on Sunday 30 October 2011!

I hope that the children can continuously be reminded in this coming week about Jesus is God's son. Please remind your children about Joseph and Mary were in a stable at Bethlehem when Jesus was born. The shepherds came to visit Jesus and they sent the good news to everyone at Bethlehem.

Please find a brief summary below about the concept area and the activities we introduced to the children yesterday:

Concept Area:

Jesus

Theme:

Jesus was sent to earth by God

Bible Story:

Luke 1: 26-38 Jesus' birth was announced to Marry. Luke 2:1-7 The baby Jesus was born.

Bible Verse:

Luke 1:35 Jesus is God's son

Activities:

We introduced to the children about Jesus was born and He is God's son. We set up 4 activities stations, one of them was the making of memory verses reminder card. Through this activity, we introduced to the children about baby Jesus sleeping in a manger, Mary and Joseph. The 2nd activity station was making a craft of manger and let the children build Baby Jesus from the play dough and wrap the Baby Jesus with a soft cloth. They then put the baby Jesus on the manger. By building the Baby Jesus and the manger. We have a good conversation with the children about that Jesus is God's son and He was sent to this earth in a special way. The 3rd activity was a bible puzzle activity with the picture of Jesus was born. The last activity station was a picture of Bethlehem for us to talk about Bethlehem at the time Jesus was born.

During the Bible story telling time, in order to help the children to visualize the moment when Jesus was born, we introduced them a manger and letting them to wrap baby Jesus with a soft cloth and to put the baby Jesus into the manger. After the bible story-telling, we reinforced with the bible story by reminding the children about Jesus is God's son and he was sent to earth to save us and die on the cross for our sins. We also emphasised that since Jesus was sent to earth by God and did wonderful things for us, we could make Jesus happy by loving Jesus, loving their mommy and daddy, being obedient at home, being kind and caring for their friends and telling others about Jesus.

We ended our lesson by singing a song called, "Who is that Baby sleeping in a manger?"

I urge and encourage you as a parent to continue the learning aim at home on what the children have learned at the Sunday Preschool.

I hope to see you all again at church on Sunday!

Blessings,
VK

1.30 – 1.40pm: Bible Story Time

Bible Story: Jonah & the Whale (Jonah 1 - 4)

God said to Jonah “Get up and go to Nineveh and do what I ask. The people there are wicked. I want them to obey.”

How do you think Jonah felt when God told him that? Jonah wasn't happy to hear this. He started to pout. Can you make a pouting face? Jonah was also mad that God had asked him to do this. (Hold up the mad face.) Can you make a mad face?

But Jonah did not listen. He boarded a ship and sailed the other way. (Paper boat with Jonah Lego man basin of water.)

God sent a windstorm to shake up the boat. Jonah told the sailors to throw him into the sea. Then the wind stopped blowing and the waves stopped rolling. (Fan/paper to create wind or simply blow on the boat.)

Down, down, down sank Jonah. A giant fish came by and swallowed Jonah up. Jonah was inside the belly of the fish for 3 days and 3 nights. (bath toy fish or orange juice container turned into big fish.)

Then Jonah prayed, “Thank you, God, for saving me. I will do what you say.”

The fish threw Jonah up on dry land. (Throw Jonah Lego man out of the container onto the dry floor.)

God gave Jonah one more chance to listen and obey. He said, “Now go to Nineveh.” So this time Jonah went to Nineveh.

Jonah told the people in Nineveh, “Because you disobeyed the Lord and did bad things, God is going to punish you.” The people said sorry to God, turned from their bad ways and obeyed God.

God forgave the people and they gave God their praise.

Say: “Have you ever done something wrong and then tried to cover it up or go hide in your room and hope that your mom and dad wouldn't get to mad when they found out? If you did, you were acting just like Jonah. It doesn't do any good to hide does it? Sooner or later you have to face up to what you did.”

Say: “You may be able to hide things from your parents and friends, but you can't hide them from God. The Bible says, "Nothing in all creation can hide from him. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes. This is the God to whom we must explain all that we have done."

Say: “When you do something wrong, instead of trying to forget about it, or hiding from it, God wants you to tell him about it, and to ask him for forgiveness. The Bible tells us that, "If we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong." 1 John 1:9. So instead of trying to hide your sins from God, tell God what you did wrong and he will forgive you.”

Ask the children to recite it one-by-one Acts 5:29 “We must obey God”.
