Dear everyone,
Please find a brief summary about the concept
area and the activities planned for the children on Sunday 15 January 2012:
As there were only 2 children who attended the pre-school class on 08 January, VK and I decided to repeat and reinforce the learning session on 15 January with different learning activities.
Concept Area:
Community and World
Theme:
I can help others around me.
Bible Story:
Luke 10:25-37 Jesus tells about the Good Samaritan
Bible Verse:
Galatians 5:13 Help one another
Activities:
We continued with the minds-on and interactive activities of talking with the children using picture examples of how the children can help at home, for example, taking care of a younger sibling while mommy is cooking, visiting grandparents, helping with household chores such as doing laundry, baking and walking the dog together. The children were encouraged to draw an outline of their hands on coloured paper to connect the idea of their 'helping hands' with how the Good Samaritan helps the injured man. (Luke 10:25-37).
Another station with the children's kitchen was used with plastic cooking utensils and food, whereby the children could play and learn at the same time while teachers guided them in their learning of how they can be helpful at home, such as baking and cooking with parents and siblings.
The other stations included activities for colouring a picture of 'The Good Samaritan', Joining-the-dots and tracing for the older toddlers who were interested in these activities.
The Bible story of 'The Good Samaritan' was re-taught again, with a time of reflection at the end using open-ended questions to the children, such as
'Why and how was the Samaritan good?'
'What do you think the Priest and the Levite should have done?'
'How can we be a good Samaritan?'
'How can we help one another at home or at school (vuggestue/børnehave)?'
This teaching session concluded with a time of hands-on learning by encouraging the children to pick out selected coloured gummi bears from a bowl of mixed gummi bears and serving the selected colours in another child's bowl.
Overall, it was a great joy to see many children and new faces that day and I hope to see everyone again at pre-school!
Blessings,
Wi Min
