Theme: I can do what my parents tell me to do.

Key Bible verse: Exodus: 20:12 Obey your father and mother.

 

12.30-1.00pm: Activities and snack time.

Two activities stations:

1)       Playdough station – Make an ‘O’. O=obedience

2)       Coloring station – coloring page on O=obedience

Objective: Talk to children about obeying father and mother.

Guidance: As the children color the pages, ask them examples of how they obey their father and mother, and share to them how and why they should obey their parents.

Getting Attention: Set up the circle and a few of the props while the children are watching. Do not make any comments except to say how excited you are about today’s lesson. The children will build interest and excitement to match your own.

Active Listening: Before you read the Bible verse, ask the children to listen carefully for the answer to these questions:

“What can I do to make my life better? What could I do to make my life worse?”

Then carefully read the key Bible verse:

Ephesians 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

Ask the children if they can answer those two questions. Introduce the lesson by saying: That’s what we’re learning about today. I have a special name for this I call the “Circle of Blessing.” Can you repeat that with me? “Circle of Blessing.”

Let’s Talk about that Bible Verse: Ask for volunteers(children) to explain tricky parts to you. Use their answers as jumping off points to briefly clarify the meaning of this passage. Here are some parts chosen for elaboration:

• honor your Father and mother (what does that mean?) it’s more than just obeying but treating them like important people with love & respect
• commandment with a promise (what does that mean?) it’s the first of the 10 Commandments that comes with a specific promise from God, there is a reward if you do this right
• go well with you (what does that mean?) that God will help your life work out better, not perfect but much better than it would be if you did not obey
• live long in the land (what does that mean?) when God first said this it was talking about the promised land, but for Christians the promised land is mainly about heaven, if your parents teach you about Jesus you can have eternal life in heaven

·         Circle of Blessing Object Lesson: Invite a child to come up to the front of the room. Have them stand inside an imaginary circle of about 3ft diameter. Then say:

·         This is the circle of blessing. It’s a way to imagine the way obedience keeps us out of danger. Just like our Bible verse says, God will watch over us while we obey our parents. To move outside the circle is like disobeying. Moving outside the circle brings danger.

·         At this point surprise the child by showing them a squirt-gun (or water bottle that sprays a mist) that you previously had hidden. Tell them as long as they are in the circle they are safe, but outside the circle they are in danger. Demonstrate by shooting a jet of water outside the circle. Then ask the child to step outside the circle to the spot you just shot. Then give them a short blast of water. Then say:

·         When we obey our parents it’s like staying inside the circle, God will keep us safe. But when we disobey it is like stepping outside the circle. When we do that we cause bad things to happen to our lives.

Agree / Disagree [understanding test]: Have the children respond as a group to the following questions. If the statement is right they should stand up, if wrong they should stay seated and cross their arms.

• Disobeying is okay if you know your parents will say NO [disagree]
• Since your parents put the kindergarden in charge of you, to honor your parents means to obey your teacher too [agree]
• If you always obey your parents, your life will always be perfect [disagree]
• Once you disobey, you can’t get back inside the circle [disagree]
• When Jesus was a child, he always obeyed his human parents [agree]
• God doesn’t care if we have a bad attitude when we obey [disagree]
• God promised a better life for those who obey [agree]
• It’s not really disobeying if you parents didn’t actually say NO [disagree]
• When Jesus was a grown-up, he always obeyed his “Father in Heaven” [agree]

New Ways To Honor & Obey [new attitude test]: Ask the children to think of one way they could obey their parents better, tell them if they have a really good example you will let the act it out with the circle & the squirt-gun. If they have trouble, offer this example: “When I whine about dinner I am outside the circle of blessing [say this part outside the circle then squirt], from now on I can be thankful even when my parents don’t cook my favorite food. [move inside the circle on don't squirt]”

Closing: Lead the children in prayer thanking God for our parents. Ask for new hearts that help them obey.

1.45-1.55pm: Clean up time.

1.55 – 2.00pm: Parents to collect children.

Nursery Lesson Plan 15: Family Members Love One Another - 27 January 2013

FIBC Nursery (0-5 years old)

Date: 27th January 2013, Time: 1 – 2.30pm

Concept: Family

Key Bible Verse: John 15:17 - Jesus said, "Love One Another"

1-1.30pm: Art & Crafts (Visual & Kinesthetic)

Arts & Crafts: Create a Picture Frame (Kinesthetic)

Ojective(s): Create a picture frame using paper and cardboard and place a family photo in the middle.

Materials: A4 cardboard, A4 sheets of paper, photo of family or sibling., print out of the bible verse.

Guidance: Help children create a frame from the materials and place a picture of a family member or entire family in the middle.  Below the picture paste the day's bible verse.

Arts & Crafts: Play dough (Kinesthetic)

Ojective(s): Create something with play dough.

Materials: Play dough.

Guidance: Children are encouraged to create figurines (or anything that grabs their imagination).

1.30 – 1.45pm: Snack time

1.45 – 1.55pm: Lesson Time with a Bible story (Audiotory)

Nursery Lesson Plan 52: My Family Can Help Others - The Good Samarian - 7th October 2012

Dear everyone,

What a joy to see the many little faces on Sunday! Please find a summary about the concept area and activities held for the children at the preschool ministry on Sunday 07 October 2012:

Concept Area:

Family

 

Theme:

My family can help other people.

Bible Story:

Who is our neighbour – Jesus tells about the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37).

Bible Verse:

Galatians 5:13 Help one another.

Activities:

There were 4 activity stations that were set up as follow:

1. Making Hand Print Collages

When the children arrived at the Sunday Pre-school, they are greeted and were introduced to this theme discovering activity. The children were requested to make their hand prints on a collage. While they were making their hand prints, we have a good conversation with the children to introduce to them that they can use their hands to help others, for example helping the weak, helping in the church, helping dad & mom at home, helping one another at school.

2. Painting

Each child was provided with a blank A3 size paper and the children were encouraged to draw anything in their mind. We observed what they drew on the paper, what colour they choose to paint, slowly we introduce to them the concept of helping one another. We used the object they drew to talk about and relate to the theme of helping other people. We asked the children leading questions to direct them to the theme of the day. For example, if the children drew a tree, we talked with them about God create trees for us. Trees are good for us because trees bear fruits. We can help others by taking care of the trees around us so that everyone can enjoy the fruits from the trees.

3. Play Dough

The children uses their hands to build something they like from the play dough. We reinforced the concept of helping others with them while they are building something from the paly dough. They can use their hand to help others just like they use their hands to build something from the play dough.

4. Telling the Bible story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37)

We told the Bible story on how a man who was hurt by the robbers and was abandoned by the road side. Two men passed by the hurt man but none of them help him. Finally, a good Samaritan passed by him and he stopped to bandage the hurt man. He brought him to a hotel and paid for his stay at the hotel. We asked prompting questions to the children like whether the first 2 two men did the right thing by ignoring the hurt man at the road side and how they think about the good Samaritan of helping the hurt man. At the end of the Bible storytelling, we restated the learning experience with the children by showing them a slides show of unfortunate children in 3rd world countries. We try to explain to them the following values:

• The children together with their family can help those unfortunate children in 3rd world countries

• The children can help the weak like the children in the 3rd world countries as shown in the video

• When they help the others, they show them God’s love

• The children can help others to do good thing when they set a good example to follow

• When they do something good, other will follow them

The children were fascinated by the slide shows and asking us questions like why the unfortunate children in the 3^rd world countries have not enough food to eat and clean water to drink and use.

The day's session concluded with a game. Each child is given a tissue to place on his/ her head. The children were instructed to move around to the tune of music while keeping the tissue on their heads. If a tissue fell off, the child would freeze. Another child needed to help the frozen child by placing the tissue back on the frozen child's head, allowing the frozen child to re-join the game. This game helped raise awareness of others in need for preschool children.

Date: 24^th June 2012, Time: 1 – 2.15pm

Concept Area: Family

Theme: God wants family members to be kind to one another

Bible Verse: Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another.”

Teachers: Elaine, Chen Ying, Stephen and Frieda Nielsen

12.50 – 1pm: Preparation Time

·         Teachers to arrive 10 minutes earlier to prepare and set up the room.

·         Bring a jug of water.

·         Mark Attendance.

·         Fill in Food Allergy Alert Chart for new children.

1-1.30pm: Early Arrival Activity Time

(For the children to bring home to do during the week to reinforce the learning on kindness)

1.30 – 1.40pm: Bible Lesson & Story Time

Gather the children to sit around in a circle.

Bible Lesson to be Incorporated into the Activities and Bible Verse: Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another.”

The Bible teaches us to be kind to one another. (Hold up the Bible, open it and read Ephesians 4:32 – Be kind to one another.)

Do you know what kindness is?

Definition: Kindness is an attitude that shows a true spirit of helpfulness toward people, just as God is helpful to us.

Kindness means thinking of others first – their needs and wants before your own.

God might help us to be kind to someone who really needs it and we're not even aware of it. For example, maybe you feel like you should write a letter or call a grandparent. God might be urging you to do that because they are having a bad day and that's exactly what they need to cheer them up. Sometimes your kind deed to someone else is all they need to remember that someone special loves them.

How do you show kindness? How do you help others? Can you tell me 3 ways to show kindness?

1.     We can show kindness by serving others.

2.     We can show kindness by helping at home such as helping mommy to care for newly arrived baby, baking, cleaning, cooking, etc.

3.     We can show kindness by taking care of a younger sibling while mommy is cooking, helping with household chores such as doing laundry, baking and walking the dog together.

4.     Visiting or writing a card to grandparents who may be lonely.

5.     Write a card to someone who is sick.

6.     Help the hurting.

7.     Pray for someone if you feel helpless to assist.

It should be easy to be kind although sometimes it's not. Is it easy to be kind to someone who has been mean to? How tempting is it to want to hurt others when they hurt us? Do you think kindness can be the answer to someone who hurts you? For example, someone who doesn’t want to be your friend, or someone who doesn’t want to share his toys with you. Why and why not?

The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:15 “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.”

When someone hurts us, we usually react back right away. God wants us to respond back with kindness. God wants us to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). Striking back or hurting others will not bring people to Jesus Christ. We want others to come to Jesus and be filled with His love.

When we are hurt by others and need encouragement, we can seek help. God sends moms and dads, friends and neighbours, teachers and pastors to encourage us. In their wisdom, they can help us sort out the trouble without taking revenge.

We can learn from Jesus. As sinners, we have offended God. Although God has every right to be angry with us, he showed how great His kindness instead by sending Jesus to die on the cross to save us. In God’s kindness, He offers everyone here complete forgiveness.

Let’s show the kindness to others that God has shown to us! This is possible only if we remain in Him, if we get to know Him more and more through praying, learning His Word, and following Him. We look to Jesus to help us.

Distribute the foil mirrors that you have prepared before class. Tell the children to mark a bold cross in the centre and say, “Let the cross always remind you that Jesus’ death on the cross paid the price for all sin, including our desire to “get even” with others. Instead, let’s reflect God’s forgiven love.”

Can you do 3 acts of kindness this week and tell your teacher at the nursery class next Sunday, what 3 acts of kindness you have done?

Close with prayer. Remember the specific situations your children are going through. Invite them to share their needs and praises. Praise God for the fruit of the Holy Spirit, the kindness we are able to have because He lives within us.

Activity Description

Activity Station 1: Spell Kindness with Fridge Magnets (for children from 2 - 4 years old)

Materials:

1. 8 letter magnets with one letter written on each: K, I, N, D, N, E, S, S

2. Whiteboard

3. Whiteboard marker

Directions:

1. Write Ephesians 4:32 on the whiteboard.

2. Use one set of letter fridge magnets to spell KINDNESS on the whiteboard.

3. Hide another set of each letter of KINDNESS in an envelope around the room.

4. After the children arrive, explain to them that there are eight letters hidden around the room that spell the fruit of the Spirit you will be learning about today.

5. After they find all of the letters, ask them to say its name and pronounce its sound.

5. Ask them to one-by-one spell the kindness by placing the respective letter underneath the KINDNESS magnetic word already placed on the white board.

ASK: Can anyone tell me what the word is? (Allow them to respond.) Then ask what kindness is?

SAY: Kindness can be shown with our thoughts, our actions, and our words. How many of you are kind all of the time? (Allow time for response.) None of us are kind all of the time! It is very easy to be unkind to our family and our friends because we are sinners. How can we discover more about kindness? (By reading God’s Word!) Let’s go to His Word now! (Open the Bible and Read Ephesians 4:32)

Activity Station 2: Kitchen Play

Children could play and learn at the same time while teachers guided them in their learning of how they can be helpful at home, such as baking and cooking with parents and siblings.

Materials:

1. Serving trays

2. Plastic plates

3. Kitchen play set

4. Teddy bear or dolls

Directions:

1. Show the children the serving trays.

2. Explain that these are serving trays.

3. Let the children know that they can use the trays to help serve each other.

4. When they serve the teddy bears and dolls, have them say, “God wants us to be kind to one another.” and have them say, “Thank you,” when they have been served.

SAY: Serving is one way to be kind to one another.

Activity Station 3: Helping the Hurting together with Kindness Colouring Pages

Materials:

1. Pictures of someone who is hurt and someone helping her with bandages

2. Cloth

3. Adhesive bandages

4. Teddy bears or dolls

Directions:

1. Show the items to the children and the picture.

2. Tell them people who are hurting need our love and kindness.

3. Tell them that Jesus wants us to be kind to the hurting and help them.

4. Give the children time to play with the items.

5. Encourage the children to act out the scene depicted in the picture with the dolls and bandage supplies.

6. As they play, talk about ways they can show kindness to others.

7. Have them practice what they might say or do with the stuffed animals or dolls.

SAY: As God produces kindness in our hearts, we begin to see other people as more important than ourselves. Remember Jesus, who died on the cross for our sins to save us. We are to emulate Him. When we are struggling to be kind to another person, we should remember God’s great kindness toward us. As sinners, we have offended God. Although God has every right to be angry with us, he showed how great His kindness instead by sending Jesus to die on the cross to save us. In God’s kindness, He offers everyone here complete forgiveness.

Physical Game: Be Warm & Kind to One Another

Children can practice the skill of showing others warm and kindness and at the same time be physically active.

Materials:

Masking Tape

Directions:

1. Use the tape to mark a circle on the floor approx. 1.8m in diameter.

2. Gather the children together and invite them to stand outside the circle and walk around it saying the rhyme:

I can show someone I love them by being warm and kind.

I can show someone I love them, they won’t be hard to find.

3. When they have finished saying the rhyme, tell the children to all move into the circle and find someone to shake hands and say Ephesians 4:32 - “Be kind to one another”.

4. Move out of the circle, walk around it and say the rhyme again.

5. After saying the rhyme, tell the children to move into the circle and find another person. This time have the children give a hug and repeat the verse again.

6. Continue saying the rhyme and having the children show different ways to be warm and kind.

7. Examples of actions: give a high five, thumbs-up, give a smile, put arm around the shoulder, pat on the back, say “Jesus love you.”

8. When the activity is over, remind the children to be warm and kind to others.

This week we focus on Family – God wants family members to be kind to one another.

Your child learned about ways to show kindness at the Nursery. You can follow-up with your child by asking your child what 3 acts of kindness they will be doing this coming week.

Bible Verse

The Bible verse used is Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another”. You can recite this verse to your child at home during the week.

Special Delivery

We have special guest speaker, Frieda Nielsen to share a Bible Lesson and personal faith experience with the children on the topic kindness.

Songs

We sing the songs Clapping Hands and Beloved Let Us Love One Another and rhyme These are Helping Hands.

Activities

We did activities that touched on God’s creation such as animals, food, water, etc.

We hope this helps you to keep up with the education your child received at the nursery this Sunday.
