Nursery Lesson Plan 27: The Bible Tells Us What Jesus Did - 20th April 2014

FIBC Nursery (0-5 years old) 

Date: 20^th April 2014, Time: 12:30 – 2.00pm 

Concept Area: Bible

Theme: The Bible tells us what Jesus did.

Key Bible Verse: Matthew 28:6 “ He is not here, He is risen just as He said”

12.20 – 12:30pm: Preparation Time

12:30-1.pm: Craft Time

Using watercolour paper stick masking tape in the form of a large cross in the middle of the paper.  Children can then paint and decorate their paper.  Stick the words Jesus is alive on the bottom.  When the paint has dried they can remove the masking tape and admire their cross.

Materials:  Watercolour paper, watercolour paint, brushes, masking tape.

1.pm- 1:15pm: Story Time

Matthew 28:1-10 (Read from Read to me Bible for kids)

Using a visual aid of an empty tomb and three crosses on a hill, read the story and ask the children to look into the empty tomb.  Talk about how Jesus died and rose again in 3 days.  Also talk about how the Bible tells us this truth and teaches us about Jesus and His life on earth.

Repeat the memory verse: Matthew 28:6 “ He is not here, He is risen just as He said”                               

Interaction with questions:

What is the Bible?  God's words to us

What does the Bible teach us?  The right things to do and tells us how Jesus lived so we can learn from His example.

What happened on the 3^rd day after Jesus died on the cross?  He rose again and He is alive today.  Repeat the memory verse: Matthew 28:6 “ He is not here, He is risen just as He said”

1.15 – 1.35pm Dramatizing the story.

Materials: Play clothing, angel wings, an empty box and a large cushion representing the stone in front of the tomb.

Get the children to reinact the story, taking turns to be Jesus, the angel, soldiers and the 2 Marys.  Get the angel to say the memory verse: “ He is not here, He is risen just as He said.” 

1.35 – 1:55pm: Snack time

Materials: Hot cross buns, icing sugar in a piping bag.

Get the children to make crosses on top on their hot cross buns with white icing sugar and allow them to enjoy. Talk about how Jesus is alive and well and with us everyday.  Repeat the memory verse, “ He is not here, He is risen just as He said.”

1:55 – 2.05pm: Singing  songs

Jesus loves me this I know.

Read your Bible, pray every day.

2.05pm: Clean up time

Clean up together and sing the song “Time to Clean Up”

·         Teachers to arrive 10 minutes earlier to prepare and set up the room.

·         Bring a jug of water.

·         Mark Attendance.

·         Fill in Food Allergy Alert Chart for new children.

1-1.30pm: Early Arrival Activity Time

Activity Station 1: Reading Bible Story Foam Books (for children younger than 2 years old)

Activity Station 2: Making Bible Figurines on Popsicle Stick (for children from 2 - 4 years old)

Activity Station 3 (Contingency): Colouring Letter B for Bible and Handwriting Worksheet

1.30 – 1.40pm: Bible Lesson & Story Time

Gather the children to sit around in a circle.

Bible Lesson

Do you know what this is? (Hold up a Bible)

This is the Bible.

The Bible is the Word of God. (Point to your lips)

Do you like to listen to bedtime story? Just like you like to listen to story, God has told His story in His word.

The Bible tells the story of God’s love for His people, about Jesus dying on the cross to forgive our bad behaviour and give us new lives.

The Bible tells us who God is.

We see God’s goodness and His character revealed in the Bible.

How do we get to know God?

We get to know God by reading the Bible and by praying.

God teaches us what is true through the Bible.

The Bible helps us know the right things to do.

Bible Verses: Psalm 33:4 “…For the word of the LORD is right and true.”

What does God says about His Word?

When we memorize God’s word, it will help us to do the right things.

Can you say after me, Psalms 33:4 “…For the word of the LORD is right and true.”

Bible Story: Daniel and the Lion

Today, we are going to read a story from the Bible from the book of Daniel chapter 6 with the Bible figurines that you have made just now:

Daniel loved God more than he loved anyone. Give yourself a big hug.

The king wanted Daniel to stop loving God. The king put Daniel in a cave with the lions so they would eat him. Can you roar like a lion? (Make hand sign for lion and make roaring sound)

God took care of Daniel. The lions didn’t hurt him. They played like they were big kitty cats. Say meow like a kitty.

You probably won’t meet any lions today, but whatever you do, God will take care of you. Show how God loves you. Give yourself a big hug.

Pray: Thank you, God, for taking care of me. Amen.

1.40 – 1.50pm: Singing

Use musical instruments, hand motions and songs as follows:

·         The B-I-B-L-E

·         Read Your Bible

·         Read, Read, Read Your Bible (To the tune of “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”)

·         The Bible is God’s Word (To the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”)

·         Jesus Loves Me

1.50 – 2pm: Snack Time

·         Ask the children to queue up.

·         Ask the older children to give out the cups, plates and rice snack.

·         Sing the “Say Grace Song”

·         Ask each child to recite: “The Bible is right and true.” Psalm 33:4

·         As the children to help to clean up before moving to game time.

2 – 2.10pm: Game Time (if there is time)

Game: The 10 Commandment Hopping Mat

Contingency Game: Run-&-Freeze

A great exercise for movement and body part identification in this version of FREEZE. Say, “RUN” and ask the children run freely until you say, “FREEZE”. After they are frozen, call out only one body part for them to unfreeze and move. For example, say, “Wave your right hand.” or “Kick your left leg.” The children will of course move other parts while doing the activities called out, but for the most part the rest of his body will be still. Start the fun over each time by saying “RUN” and then “FREEZE”.

2.10 – 2.20pm: Clean up Time

·         Clean up together and sing the song “Time to Clean Up”

2.15pm: Parents pick up kids

Nursery Lesson Plan 11: The Bible teaches us about Jesus

Dear Parents,
 

'We can learn about God and Jesus from the Bible.' - this is the theme for the Sunday pre-school learning on 06 November 2011. 

I hope that the children be reminded about the Bible from God, from which we can learn about Him, and apply His teachings and lessons in our own lives.

Young Jesus studied the scriptures with the wise teachers at the tabernacle.

Activities:

As a warm-up activity, we started by recalling the stories the children have learnt from the previous Sundays through 'join-the-dots' and maze activities. Stories from 'Jonah and the whale', 'Jesus was born', 'Noah's Ark', 'Jesus is God's son', and among others were repeated, for example, using the maze activities to help Noah find the animals for the Ark, and the shepherds to find baby Jesus in the manger.

As Christmas is approaching and to co-relate with the Bible theme of learning about Jesus, the children had an opportunity to create and decorate Christmas cards that they could give to their loved ones at home, to parents and grandparents. Throughout the activities, children hear about the meaning of Christmas, about God's salvation through His son, Jesus. 

During the story-telling time, children hear about how young Jesus studied the scriptures together with the wise teacher at the tabernacle. Likewise for us today, we also read the Bible at home together with our parents and family and at church with teachers and friends. I tried to introduce the concept that for each book in the Bible, there is a chapter and the corresponding verses. To repeat from a previous learning on the first few books of the Old Testament, building blocks printed with the names of the first 7 books, from Genesis till Judges were used in which the children could learn these names through building a Bible block or skyscraper, and to arrange them in the correct order, according to the Bible.

Before refreshments time, we prayed and gave thanks for the rice crackers and drink. Very quickly, the time passed, and we started to clean-up the room, with the children’s involvement  and thereafter parents came to pick up their children after the worship service. 

I urge and encourage you to continue the learning aim at home about reading the Bible as a central activity at home.

Nursery Lesson Plan 3: The Bible Is True - 11th September

Dear Parents,

Praise the Lord for bringing your children to the house of the Lord to see and hear that all God's words are true! For those who were not able to come on Sunday, we hope to see you next time at the FIBC pre-school to join us for a time of learning, loving and sharing about God's salvation for us.

In this lesson, we introduced that the Bible is true, by sharing that all the stories in the Bible really happened, as evidenced in God's creation of the world we live in.

Brief overview of activities:

As a warm-up while waiting for other children to arrive, we played a Bible word game. Children toss a small jellyfish-like bean-bag to select and pick up alphabet cards that have been placed on a floor, and to complete words like 'B-I-B-L-E', 'G-O-D' and 'J-E-S-U-S'.

As an activity to recall and reinforce the memory verses taught from the previous lessons, this was followed by an activity where the children are involved in making their very own little booklet of mempry verses. They pasted strips of small paper containing the verses and decorated the pages with their own drawings and animal stickers, while we read together aloud and repeat the memory verses such as:

Psalm 55:17 I will pray always and God will hear and answer
1 Peter 5:7 God cares for you
Psalm 122:1 I like to go to church
Psalm 73:1 God is good to us
1 John 3:22 Do those things that are pleasing to God
Matthew 2:1 Jesus was born

As an activity leading to the story-time, a few items like an apple, orange, potato, stones, flowers, leaves, feather were hidden around the room. The children were asked to help me find these items as we gather and sit together to hear the story. The children are quizzed on what are the items they have found with questions 'What is this?', 'Do you know who made this?' and 'How do we know that God made this?'. I then showed my Bible and started to talk about how God had spoke to men from long ago who wrote God's words for the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16), and that the Bible is true. In trying to explain the word 'true', I repeated that the stories in the Bible really happened, for example, through God's creation of the seas, lands and animals and the things they have found in the room. I also showed a Disney storybook 'Dumbo', to try to explain the concept of 'true' versus 'false', so that the children could understand the difference between the stories we read in the Bible compared with fairy tales, cartoons and fantasies. We then try to read and repeat the first few books of the Old Testament together with the children, and played a Children's song from a music CD that sings all the books in the Bible.

An activity station was set up with Bibles that they children are encouraged to open them, read and talk about the stories in the Bible. I also placed books like 'Pinochio' and 'Merlin the magician' so that we could talk about what is the difference between these stories and those in the Bible.

The children enjoyed a 'Wiggle-Giggle-Freeze' exercise after a snack time before we wrapped up the lesson and cleaned-up the room together.

I urge and encourage you to continue the learning aim at home this week on 'The Bible is true'- John 17:17.
