Nursery Lesson Plan 6: I Am Growing - 18 November 2012

Concept Area – Self

Theme: I am growing

Bible verse: Luke 2:52 Jesus grew tall

Bible Stories:

Jesus’ childhood stories (Luke 2:39-52)

Help the children to understand the concept that they are growing up every day just like Jesus. Jesus was a child like them and He grew up from a baby to be a man like their daddies. God wants us not only to grow up physically but also spiritually so that we can help and serve others in need just like Jesus in the Bible stories.

Resources and preparation:
·         Bible
·         Storyboard

Activity 0: Hand printing (this activity is from Lesson 52)

This was the activity on Lesson 52 (7th Oct). However, a few children handprints were missing from the collage. Print the handprints for the children which are missing from the collage.

Resources and preparation:
·         Retrieve the old collage
·         Hand print colour paste
·         Old T-shirts for the children to clean their hands after the printing
·         Disposable aprons for the children
·         May need to bring the children to the toilet to wash their hands

Activity 1: “Build” a tree that growing up

Draw a huge tree trunk on a long and large paper. Ask the children to help to paint the tree trunk and later paste the real leaves onto the tree trunk. Encourage them after that to decorate the tree by drawing things that they are imagining like draw flowers, fruits, butterfly, birds, etc. on the tree or around the tree. While constructing the tree, create good conversation with the children about the concept of growing up using the tree and the objects they have drawn around the tree as example. Introduce to them the concept of spiritual growth like pray to God every day; be obedient at home and at school.

Resources and preparation:
·         A large long white paper
·         Colouring paste & colouring brush
·         Disposable aprons for the children
·         This activity will be done on the floor due to the large size of the paper.

Activity 2: Measure and mark the children height

Ask the children one by one lean against the wall and measure and mark their height on the wall. Label their names on the wall associate to their height markings so that they can remember their height marked on the wall. Explain to them that they will grow taller and the marking will change when they measure again next time.

Resources and preparation:
·         Measuring tape
·         Marker
·         Labelling tape for labelling their name

Activity 3: Making collages

Provide the children with the pictures from the Bible stories of Jesus’ childhood, ask them to cut the pictures and paste the pictures onto a collage. Ask them to reproduce the stories in sequence. While the children carrying out the activity, reinforce the bible stories with the children that they have just listened.

Resources and preparation:
·         A3 blank papers
·         Glue
·         Pictures from  the Bible stories of Jesus’ childhood

Activity 4: Bible and books station

(Permanent station - use this station for younger children or when any children show interest to read and listen to stories)

Put a Bible at the Bible Station. If any children are interesting in listening to Bible stories, tell the following Bible stories with helping others concept:

Resources and preparation:
·         Bible
·         books

Game: A Little Help from Your Friends

Give each child a tissue to place on his head. Instruct children to move around to the tune of music while keeping the tissue on their heads. If a tissue falls off, the child will freeze. Another child needs to help the frozen child by placing the tissue back on the frozen child's head, allowing the frozen child to re-join the game. This game helps raise awareness of others in need for preschool children.

Nursery Lesson Plan 30: I am wonderfully made - 22 April 2012.

Dear everyone,
What a joy to see the many little faces on Sunday! Please find a summary about the concept area and activities held for the children at the preschool ministry on Sunday 15 April 2012:
Concept Area:
Self

Theme:

God makes me so that I can learn, work and play.
Bible Story:
Genesis 1 - God created man.
Bible Verse:
Psalm 139:14 - I am wonderfully made.
Activities:
There were 3 activity stations that were set up as follow:
1. Completing the picture of Man
A hand-drawn picture frame of a person was pasted on a wall, where the children were taught about different parts of the body that we can use to praise God for wonderfully making us. They are encouraged to paste the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hands and feet, and to talk about how they use for example, our mouths to sing, pray and praise God in our lives, our ears to listen to God's Word and music, and our feet to walk and go tell others about Jesus.
2. Making faces
Activity no. 1 was repeated and reinforced with children creating and making their own faces on their own pieces of art paper, decorating an 'empty' face with their own drawings of eyes, nose, mouth, ears and adding bow-ties or ribbons. While the children were involved in the activity, they were encouraged to talk about how they can help out at home with our hands and reminding that God  has wonderfully made us because He loves us very much.
3. Telling the Bible story of how God created Man (Genesis 1)
We started with a time of prayer led by a child Joshua Tan to thank God that we could come and gather today to hear God's Word and meet our friends.
Reciting from Psalms 139:14 'I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made' was shared with the children about God makes us so that we can praise Him, be useful, work, and play. How do we know this? The Bible tells us so from Genesis 1. The story of God's creation of the universe and man was retold:
Day 1:  Light and Dark
Day 2: Clouds and Oceans
Day 3: Land, Plants and Trees
Day 4: Sun, Moon and Stars
Day 5: Fish and Birds
Day 6: Man and Animals
Day 7: God rested and made the day holy.
People like you and me are the creation that God loves so much that He sent Jesus Christ to be our Saviour and Friend. Children were quizzed and encouraged to share about how can we show our love to God? What can we do with what He has given us so that we can praise Him?
We closed the time of the Bible Story with another prayer and thanksgiving for the snacks.
The day's session concluded with a snack time, singing 'If you are happy' and using our hands, knees and nodding our heads. There was also some time for re-telling of the main theme with the children. They were encouraged to reflect on what and how we thank God for wonderfully making us and how we can be useful and helpful for Him and the people around us.
We hope to see your children again next time, both 'old' and 'new' faces to come, share and enjoy in the wonderful teachings God has for us.
Blessings,

Nursery Lesson Plan 22: Choices - 21st August 2011

Dear Parents,

Here is a brief summary about the concept area and the activities we introduced to the children on Sunday:

Concept Area:
SELF

Theme:

I can make choices/ I can make right and wrong choices

Bible Story:
Daniel 1:8-21
Daniel obeyed God and chose Good Food

Bible Verse:
1 John 3:22 " Do those things that are pleasing to God"

Activities:
We had a sticking and pasting station where the children chose pictures of food that they liked and were they could stick it on and the verse above is written on. Use this if you would like to reinforce the lesson and the memory verse.
We also had a kitchen station where the children played and prepared play food.
During story time the children were told the story of Daniel choosing not to eat the nice (but unhealthy) food, but rather the healthy food that God would want him to eat.  Thus he was obeying God.  In return God blessed him and his friends by making them stronger and healthier and more clever than the other men serving in the King's Palace.  We played a game of food tasting and guessing afterwards (I think they enjoyed this) and again we reinforced how mummy and daddy give healthy food because they love us.  And just as Daniel did what God wanted him to do we need to do what mummy and daddy want us to do.

You can see more pictures here:

Blessings,
Rochelle
