Nursery Lesson Plan 26: Jesus Taught the People - 18 March 2012

Hi Parents,

Herewith just a follow up from our nursery session with your little ones on Sunday.  I hope that your radishes are growing, ours certainly are.  Remember to keep watering them with the children.

The concept area was Jesus and Learning Theme was Jesus taught the people (through stories).  Bible memory verse:  Luke 5:3 Jesus taught the people.  Bible Story and Passage: Luke 8:4-15 Story of the farmer scattering seed. Our activities included planting seeds with the children and talking to them about the good soil and how if we water them and they get sunshine they will grow.  We also had a cut out and paste activity with pictures of farmers, plants and people sowing. During our story time I had three glass jars, one filled with stones and pebbles, one filled with soil and weeds and one filled with good soil as they used to plant their seeds.  I then explained how the sower sows the seeds and some fall on rocks and get eaten by birds and do not receive nourishment, others fall in soil but the weeds destroy them and then others fall into good soil and with sunshine and water grow.  Explaining that we need to be like the seed that fall into good soil and that when we pray and read our bible we grow.

We sang songs together afterwards with the children such as Read your Bible Pray every Day and Who Made the Stars so bright and the children's favourite, If you're happy clap your hands.

Remember you can pot your radishes into pots or outside just as they are, the eggcontainers are biodegradable so will just dissolve.  Hope you can enjoy them with the children.

12.50 – 1pm: Preparation & Prayer

 

• Pray for the children who will come to hear and learn. Pray for positive, receptive spirits to hear God’s Word.
• Bring a jug of water.
• Set up room.

Bible Story: Story of the Farmer Scattering Seeds (Luke 8:4-15)

Illustrate the story with a puppet, watering-can for watering the seeds, and sun for sunshine.

Begin the story as follows:

 

1.     Show a tray with 3 glass jars, 1 filled with stones and pebbles, 1 filled with soil and weeds and 1 filled with good soil the children use to plant their seeds. 

2.     A farmer sowed some seeds in his field.

3.     As he scattered the seeds, they fell in different areas of the field.

4.     Some seeds fell onto the path and the birds quickly ate them. (scatters some seeds on the tray)

5.     Some seeds fell onto rocks and do not receive nourishment. (Scatter some seeds in the jar with pebbles)

6.     Some seeds fell in soil but the weeds destroyed them. (Scatter some seeds in the jar with soil full of weeds)

7.     But some seeds fell onto good soil and with sunshine and water, the plants grew well. (Scatter some seeds in the jar with the good soil)

8.     We need to be like the seeds that fell into good soil and when we pray and read our Bible, we grow.

2 – 2.15pm: Activity Time

 

Activity: Planting Sunflower Seeds

• Use egg cases and fill them with soil.
• Let the children scatter sunflowers seeds in them.
• Let them water the soil with the water can

Say: “If the seeds fall on good soil and if we water them and they get sunshine, they will grow into a beautiful sunflowers.”

2.15 – 2.30pm: Clean up Time

 

Clean up together and sing the song “Time to Clean Up”

 

2.30pm: Parents pick up kids

Nursery Lesson Plan 25: God hears me when I talk to Him - 11 March 2012

Dear everyone,

Please find a brief summary about the concept area and the activities held for the children at the preschool ministry yesterday on Sunday 11 March 2012:

It has been such a great blessing to have a special guest, Kim Nielsen, who came and shared her beautiful faith-story about God hears our prayers anytime, anywhere. (Psalm 66:19) 

Concept Area:

God hears people talk to Him when they pray.

Jonah 1 - Jonah and the whale

Bible Verse:

Psalm 66:19 God hears me when I talk to Him

Activities:

There were 3 activity stations that were set up, as follow:

1. Making collages and montages

The children were encouraged to talk, listen and reflect upon the story of Jonah and the whale, and had a go at making their own collages/ montages by pasting pictures on large pieces of paper. We had conversation with them about Jonah's prayers and tried to encourage them to imagine if they were Jonah, what would be their experience being in the stomach of the whale for 3 days. How could they get help in that situation?

2. Fishing for whales

The children had great fun fishing for whales from a 'water tank'. They could then add and paste all the whales that they had caught onto their own collages. While the children were busy in this activity, we created conversations with them about the story of Jonah and the whale, especially Jonah was inside the whale for 3 days. He prayed for God's help and God heard his prayer and released him from the whale.

3. Telling the bible story of Jonah and the whale

While they were engaging in the activities, we told them the story of Jonah and the whale and also created a conversation with them about prayers. For example, what they can pray for? Where they can pray? When they can pray? How they pray?

As part of an effort to encourage inter-generation interaction for the preschoolers, Kim came and shared with us her own personal faith-story. This generated a lot of interesting thoughts and learning conversations with the children, who were prompted to reflect on our prayers. We closed the time of sharing with a prayer.

The day's session concluded with a snack time. Everyone enjoyed the yummy carrot  muffins specially prepared by Kim.

Overall, it was a great joy to see the children interacting with Kim and with one another. We hope to see your children again next time, both 'old' and 'new' faces to come, share and enjoy in the wonderful teachings God has for us.

Nursery Lesson Plan 24: Tell about Jesus - 4 March 2012

Dear everyone, Please find a brief summary about the concept area and the activities held for the children at the preschool ministry yesterday on Sunday 04 March 2012: Thank you very much to those who came and observed the session. It has been such a great blessing to have a special guest, Frieda Nielsen, who came and shared her beautiful  faith-story and encouraging both the children and adults to tell others about our heavenly Father who loves and cares for us. (Matthew 28:20)  Concept Area: Community and World Theme: People tell others about God and Jesus.  Bible Story: Special Guest Speaker: Frieda Nielsen and Luke 5:1-11 The call of the First Disciples - "I will make you fishers of men" Bible Verse: Matthew 28:20 Tell about Jesus Activities: There were 3 activity stations that were set up, as follow: 1) Bible Story with Colouring activity: Luke 5:1-11 The call of the First Disciples - "I will make you fishers of men" The fishermen Peter, Andrew, James and John have been fishing all night but could not catch any fish. They have been working hard all night, casting their nets out into the Sea of Galilee many times but could not catch any fish. The next morning, Jesus was preaching and teaching a large crowd of people near the Sea of Galilee. He saw the fishermen and called them to bring their boat over so that He then climbed into the boat. Jesus preached and the fishermen also listened carefully, even though they were tired and sleepy. Then Jesus said to them to 'let's go fishing'. They obeyed and cast their nets out into the water. The nets became full of fish. The fishermen were no longer tired but felt excited and ambitious. Peter knelt down before Jesus because he knew he is a sinful man. Jesus said 'Do not be afraid. From now on, you will be fishers of men, instead of fish'. Let us be ambitious to tell others about Jesus! 2) Retelling of Bible Stories taught from previous sessions, such as: - Noah's Ark - Jonah and the Whale - The Good Samaritan - Joseph and his brothers The children were encouraged to talk, listen and reflect upon these stories, and have a go and making their own collages/montages by pasting pictures that depict these Bible Stories on large pieces of paper. 3) Fishing for coloured fish: The children had great fun fishing for coloured fishes from a 'water tank'. They could then add and paste all the 'fishes' that they have caught onto their own collages. As part of a first-time-effort to encourage inter-generation interaction for the preschoolers, Frieda came and shared with us her own personal faith-story. This generated a lot of interesting thoughts and learning conversations with the children, who were prompted to reflect on our heavenly Father. Pictures depicting fatherly love and prayer were also shown to help the visual learners. We closed the time of sharing with a prayer. The day's session concluded with a birthday celebration for Joshua Friis and Joshua Coote. Everyone enjoyed the yummy chocolate birthday cake, with juice and sweets that were prepared by the parents. Overall, it was a great joy to see the children interacting with Frieda and with one another. FIBC Nursery (0-4 years old)

Date: 5^th February 2012, Time: 1 – 2.30pm

Concept Area: God
Theme: God made food for people and animals

Bible Verse: Psalm 136:25 God gives food to us.

1-1.30pm: Early Arrivers Activities

Activity Station 1: Pasting cuisines from different nationalities

 ·         Pictures of food from the different nationalities found in the nursery e.g. South African, Malaysian, etc.

Say: “God gives food to all people of the world. God gives us food from different cultures to enjoy”

Activity Station 2: Making food with kitchen play set

·         Cutting toy fruit and vegetables
·         Cooking food on toy kitchen stove

Say: “God is the source of all food. God loves us by providing us with food to nourish our body and make us grow healthy and strong.”

1.30 – 1.40pm: Bible Story Time

Bible Story: Jesus fed the people – 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish (Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:30-44, Luke 9:10-17, John 6:1-13)

·         Now I am going to tell you a story about how Jesus fed the people
·         Bring out the bread and the fish

Jesus withdrew by boat privately to a quiet place. The crowds followed him. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

Evening came and the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.”

Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”

“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered.

“Bring them here to me,” he said. Jesus directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were full. The disciples picked up 12 basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, women and children.

·         I know God loves us because he provides food for us.
·         Ask the children to recite it one-by-one Psalm 136:25 “God gives food to us.”

1.50 – 2pm:  Group Game Time

Mystery Bag
·         2 Drawstring bags containing fruit with different textures and shapes such as orange, apple, pear, banana
·         Call out a fruit and ask the children to take turn to pick the correct fruit using their hands to feel.
·         Pass the bag around and repeat.
·         Say: “God created orange, can you pick out the orange from the bag without looking?”

Montessori Fruit Sensory Tub

·         Big tub filled with pasta as base and filled with plastic fruits and letter magnets for children to find, scoop and dig into containers, pots and bowls
·         Ask the children to sort the items by colour, by type of food, etc.
·         Older children can match letters with the fruit
·         Cutting toy fruit and vegetables

2 – 2.10pm: Snack Time

·         Sing the “Say Grace Song”
·         Get the older kids to distribute the snacks and cups.
·         Ask the children to recite it one-by-one Psalm 136:25 “God gives food to us.”
·         Evaluation: Have the children state ways of God loves us (last week’s lesson) and provides for us. For example by creating food and feeding us.

Food Tasting Game (Contingency)

2.10 – 2.20pm: Singing

Dear Parent

Concept Area

This week we focus on Creation – God made food for people and animals.

Your child will bring back a collage on food from different cultures he/she made during the class.

Bible Verse

The Bible verse used is Psalm 136:25 “God gives food to us”. You can recite this verse to your child at home during the week.

Bible Story

We told the story of Jesus feeding five thousand people with 5 loves of bead and 2 fish using a basket with toy bread and fish to gather the children’s attention.

Songs

We prepared songs, but we did not have the time to carry out this activity.

Activities

We had two stations for the early birds, with cutting and pasting food from different cultures and nationalities, teaching the children that God gives us food from different cultures to enjoy.

The other station with the kitchen play set was used with plastic cooking utensils and food to teach the children that it is God who provides us with food to cook our meals. The children were encouraged to serve their friend (Anna) the food they cooked, reminding them of previous lesson of helping one another.

In continuation with the Bible Story theme, we served bread as snack. The children volunteered and took turn to serve the plate, cups, bread and milk to one another. Throughout, the activities, we asked the children question about Who gives food to us? And we encourage them to recite Psalm 136:25 one-by-one.

During Group game time/Circle Time, we played the game of Mystery Bags as part of sensory stimulation for children of this age group. The children picked the fruit from the bag by feeling them, without looking. We told them that God created orange, and asked them whether they can pick out the orange from the bag without looking?

We hope this helps you to keep up with the education your child received at the nursery this Sunday.
